al video of Anita Street (formerly Sanitary Street) in the heart of downtown Manchester. The video cranes upwards from Anita Street to reveal the wider city skyline. Anita Street was created during the Industrial Revolution and was the city council's answer to rectify slum housing, which at the time was to blame for the extremely high mortality rate amongst working class people, hence the original name of the street (Sanitary Street). Housing stock of the time was very poor and this street was the first of its kind and was to set the bar for future housing development stock. The majority of that housing stock has been demolished as part of the slum clearance of the 1960's and this street remains as a historical reminder of Manchester's Industrial heritage. Of course, the residents were not quite happy with the connotations of the original name and applied for it to be changed to Anita Street.
