Thrissur Pooram, held in Thekkinkadu Maidanam in the heart of Thrissur district, is a major celebration that combines Kerala's spiritual and cultural core. This yearly temple celebration, held during the Malayalam month of Medam (April-May), is commonly considered as the "Mother of all Poorams." Thrissur Pooram, the idea of Shakthan Thampuran, the Maharaja of Kochi, combines 10 temples to create a stunning display that draws thousands of tourists each year. The festival has an exciting array of events, with vibrantly dressed elephants being a big draw. The Kudamattom ritual, which involves the rapid and rhythmic exchange of brilliantly colored and sequined parasols, is a highly anticipated event that symbolizes the festival's visual beauty. Another notable event is the Ilanjithara Melam, a fascinating performance of traditional instruments.
