ss was a mountain pass in the Han Dynasty of China that connected the north of the Great Wall. Located in the northwest of Shajintaohai Sumu, Dengkou County, western Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, at the southern entrance of Halonggenai Gorge in the southwest section of Langshan. The canyon runs through Yangshan (now Langshan) from north to south, with a flat valley bottom. Located north of the Han Great Wall and east of Tu Shenze, it was the gateway to the northwest of the Han Dynasty and controlled the transportation throat through Yangshan. The Western Han Dynasty established a fortress in the third year of Emperor Wu of Han's Yuanshou reign (around 120 BC). The cliff facing building in Sai Cheng is made of stone and has a square shape with a side length of about 68.5 meters. It stands on the west side of the gorge. There are moats built outside the city gate, with corner platforms (horse faces) at the four corners. It is one of the earliest surviving moats in China, easy to defend but difficult to attack. Jilu Pass was an important military fortress in the western part of Shuofang County during the Han Dynasty, forming a defense system together with the surrounding beacon towers and Honghun City. It was also the main channel for political and economic exchanges between the Han Dynasty and the Xiongnu.
