Cherry (Prunus serotina) deciduous tree swaying wildly in the wind amidst a dense forest background. Prunus serotina, commonly called black cherry, wild black cherry, rum cherry, or mountain black cherry, is a deciduous tree or shrub in the rose family Rosaceae. Despite its common names, it is not very closely related to commonly cultivated cherries. This species is a native fruit-bearing tree often found along fence lines and in wooded areas. It has dark, elliptic-lanceolate leaves and can grow in various environments, including moist forests.
