ip features the Colorado River and Interstate 70 from the window of the California Zephyr passenger train as it passes through the Rocky Mountains, west of Denver. The Colorado River originates in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park as a high-mountain stream, flowing 1,450 miles to the Gulf of California. As a critical headwaters source, it provides around 40 percent of Colorado's water supply and drives a massive agricultural, recreational, and municipal economy. The river, however, faces severe drought and over-allocation challenges.
