Around Komodo, they patrol the drop-offs and sites such as Crystal Rock and Castle Rock, sometimes sleeping on the sand or in caves during the day. Shy and homebodies, they hunt fish, crustaceans and cephalopods at night, sometimes in groups. Viviparous, they reach maturity at 5 years of age and live up to 25 years. Females carry 1 to 5 young, measuring 50 cm at birth, after an unknown gestation period. Males bite to mate.
