likely a European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), given the white head, gray back, and pink legs in Niagara Falls State Park. The water rushes over rocks in the background, creating small rapids and white foam around the log. The surrounding natural landscape features rocky terrain and sparse vegetation along the riverbank. Adult Herring Gulls are known for their white heads, pale gray backs (mantle), and thick yellow bills with a distinct red spot (gonys angle). These birds are highly adaptable scavengers often found near coastal areas, lakes, and rivers.Identification Challenges: Adult gulls can sometimes be confused with similar species like the California Gull or Ring-billed Gull, though the Herring Gull is generally larger with a chunkier bill.
