on the Verzasca River(Ticino, Switzerland) is a time of awakening to pristine purity. While snow still lingers on the surrounding mountain peaks, the river valley fills with icy, crystal-clear water, acquiring its famous emerald and turquoise hues. The water is so clear that even at great depths, giant granite boulders of bizarre shapes, polished over thousands of years, are visible. The soft green young foliage of the chestnut and birch trees frames the grey rocks, creating a vibrant pop of colour against the turquoise stream. In the spring, the melting snow causes the current to become more powerful, forming seething white rapids and small waterfalls that roar through the rocky gorges.
